College Level Opportunities

The Rose Theatre Co., a DC-based professional organization, is seeking short comedic monologues for the creation of a curated digital film series titled IN CHARACTER. Selected monologues will be produced and released by The Rose for use across digital platforms, including Instagram and You Tube. Writers may make multiple submissions. This is an open-ended project. Writers will retain all rights to their words. The Rose Theatre Co. will retain all rights to the audio-video content and their production of the monologues submitted. Please note that all submissions are voluntary and unpaid.

Your article should be a strong argument about an issue in the news. And it should not be a response to a Journal article; that is a letter to the editor. For an idea of what we are looking for, read the Journal's editorial page on a regular basis. We prefer that the submission be between 400 and 1,000 jargon-free words, submitted as the body of an email rather than an attachment. We will contact authors on timely articles that are of interest to us as soon as possible. Otherwise, due to the large volume of submissions, for articles that we are not able to use, we will respond within 10 business days.

The Atlantic is always interested in great nonfiction, fiction, and poetry. A general familiarity with what we have published in the past is the best guide to what we're looking for. All manuscripts should be submitted as a Word document or PDF. Succinct pitches may be submitted in the body of an e-mail. Submit a piece for editorial consideration at The Atlantic. Journalists who wish to pitch reported stories or commentaries to The Atlantic’s website should reach out to the following news desks.

The New York Times accepts opinion essays on any topic for both the daily print page and online section as well as the Sunday Review, the International edition (which is edited out of London and Hong Kong), and other themed series. Published pieces typically run from 400 to 1,200 words, but drafts of any length within the bounds of reason will be considered. Submissions may be sent to opinion@nytimes.com. Due to the large volume of messages we receive, we have to pass on much material of value and interest. If you do not hear from us within three business days, you should feel free to offer it elsewhere.

One Story is seeking literary fiction. Because of our format, we can only accept stories between 3,000 and 8,000 words. They can be any style and on any subject as long as they are good. We are looking for stories that leave readers feeling satisfied and are strong enough to stand alone.
